What to Do if You Get Injured While Traveling Out of State or On Vacation

Every year Southern New Jersey is flooded with tourists and vacationers.  I am often asked the question regarding an injury suffered in another state (in our case New Jersey) when you live in another state like Pennsylvania or New York.

Depending on the severity, a car or bike accident, an accident at your hotel, the shore, or an amusement park can have long-lasting effects on your mental, physical, and financial ability to care for yourself. If you suffer an injury while vacationing at the New Jersey shore, remember to remain calm and seek the appropriate emergency medical attention.  Your health should be your immediate concern. Southern New Jersey has many excellent and qualified hospitals and medical facilities, including orthopedics for a broken arm and immediate care facilities for sickness.

Atlantic City personal injury lawyer Joseph Lombardo explains how to handle accident injuries while on vacation or out of the state of New Jersey.

Documenting Evidence for Vacation Accident Injuries

When you are seeking medical attention, be sure to keep any records and documents that the doctors give you.  If your injury may affect your ability to work, be sure to tell your doctor as there are forms that you may need to fill out.  After you have stabilized your condition as best you can, you should immediately think about contacting an experienced, local personal injury attorney (admitted to practice in New Jersey) who handles plaintiff matters involving injuries like the one you suffered.  The earlier in the process that you involve an attorney, the more documentation that that attorney can collect.

Second medical opinions may also be necessary, especially if your injury requires surgery.  Regardless if you consult an attorney immediately following your injury, or sometime in the weeks after, you should try and remember and write down everything regarding the conditions that led up to your being injured.  Important things to keep track of include the date of the accident, the nature of the circumstances, if anyone else was there, and who else was involved.   If you are able, you should have your attorney or family member return to the scene and take pictures of where the accident occurred.

Contact Our Atlantic City Personal Injury Lawyer Before You Speak to the Insurance Company

If an insurance company contacts you after your injury and would like a statement, medical records, or any information, you are not obligated to give them that information before you consult an attorney.   It is at this point that many people decide to contact a personal injury lawyer to represent their rights and seek compensation to cover medical bills, physical damage, or emotional damage. An attorney will communicate on your behalf with any insurance companies involved in the injury.

Lombardo Law Group, LLC have been representing individuals who have been injured in southern New Jersey since 1992.  We handle all types of injuries including those that often occur at the Jersey shore, including bike accidents, car accidents, broken bones, slip and falls, spinal injuries, water-related injuries, assaults, boating injuries, an injury that occurred in a casino or amusement park, and motorcycle injuries.  Contact us today if you have been injured in South Jersey and would like an experienced and diligent plaintiff attorney on your side, fighting for what you deserve.
